Skijoring Finnish Championship and Sled Dog Race in Valkeakoski

2003-02-09

Finnish Championchip in skijoring was arranged in Ski Center of Korkeakangas in Valkeakoski. In addition there were national classes to four and six dogs in sled dog racing.

Anne and Nome participated to the class B-girls in skijoring. Because they were the only competitors in their class, Anne and Nome won easily the Finnish championship. Nome galloped the whole distance, which was five kilometers.

Antti raced in the class of four dogs with Riitta Kempe's Alaskan huskies. The teams competed both on Saturday and on Sunday. Antti and Heikki Lakstedt had a hard race of the win. At last Heikki won Antti with a marginal of 36 seconds. Heikki races with registered Siberian huskies.

The track was really good. At the narrowest the track was 4.5 meters wide. The arrangements were excellent, and even the weather was moderate. It is a pity that there was so few competitors in the skijoring classes for juniors.
