TSFonts for Palm OS (freeware) ------------------- [ -- The only Finnish text in this file, begin -- ] Palmin sisäänrakennetut merkistöt ovat huomattavasti monipuolisempia kuin monet, jopa useimmat, Palm- käyttäjät tietävät tai tulevat ajatelleeksi. [ -- The only Finnish text in this file, end -- ] The character sets of the built-in Palm OS fonts are considerably more extensive than many Palm users, even most of the Palm users, know or come to think of. The built-in Palm OS fonts are: stdFont largeFont boldFont largeBoldFont symbolFont symbol11Font symbol7Font ledFont TSFonts is a simple but also very useful free utility program that shows and gives access to all characters of all Palm standard fonts. It can also be used to write and save your own texts and favorite sets of characters and symbols. What is it then good for? (1) TSFonts is handy when you want to in any text- enabled program write (in a text field, of course) something using symbols and characters that can not be inserted by Palm Graffiti or keyboard(s). Just select the characters in and copy them from TSFonts and paste them into another application. Obviously, the receiving application must support the Palm OS font you copied the characters from. Please notice that you can also empty any or all of the font fields of TSFonts and then write a partial or whole wanted text of your own with special characters inside TSFonts itself before pasting it to another application. Menu items and buttons are provided to make this easy. All characters and text, also your own possible text, of any and all the fields are retained safely over sessions, too. See "Help" below. (2) Sometimes you might also want to simply know which and what kind of characters and symbols are included in the character sets of Palm fonts. Fire TSFonts up and see it. (3) Originally, I wrote this small program for myself as a programmer. A programmer very often needs to know the ASCII codes of characters (s)he wants to use and perhaps make visible in her/his program. This is where TSFonts came originally and comes again and again handy. See below. Help ---- Edit menu has "SuperCopy" menu command. This Copies the selected character(s) into the clipboard of the PDA, clears all text fields, and pastes into each field the characters with equivalent ASCII codes. After that, you can for example write a text. Please notice that because different fonts often have different characters in their "ASCII slots", SuperCopy really pastes characters with equivalent ASCII codes, not (always) the SAME characters - which would be impossibble. Use "Fill All Fields" to again see all the characters. Use "Clear All Fields" to quickly have empty space to for example paste and perhaps write something in any text field of TSFonts. All characters and text, also your own possible text, of any and all the fields are retained safely over sessions, too. Means that you can use TSFonts to also save notes, memos (or something), and save sets of your favorite symbols and characters to be used later for other purposes and in other programs. (Use "Fill All Fields" to get the very original font contents again back.) Clear or fill any ONE field only using the buttons above each text field. "Show ASCII Code" menu command shows what it says, the ASCII code of the leftmost character of on any main screen SELECTED character/text. Usually you want to select one character and then give the menu command to go and see the ASCII code of the character in question. Please notice that you don't (necessarily) have to COPY a character, just select one (or some) and jump to see the ASCII code (after pasting your selection on the ASCII code screen using the self-explanatory button provided). Good for programmers. A menu to conveniently switch to some standard Palm "text applications" is provided as well. Please don't forget to use menu shortcuts where applicable. In any Palm program, they are more handy than many people seem to be aware of. Installation ------------ * unzip the zip archive file * install the program file Fonts.PRC using the standard Palm Install Tool & Hotsync procedure.
