LAKE BUYAN

Eastern shore of Lake Buyan, at certain times with plenty of light blue Hortensia sp.

+ Lake Buyan is a confined lake surrounded by rain forests, small scale agriculture and quite recent vacation housing. There are some fishing activities at the lake. Its stratification was weak (RTR 2.7, 27.0 and 39.8), and it has an electrical conductivity above average, about 280 µS/cm, but close to the bottom it elevates to about 750 µS/cm. The total nitrogen concentrations were from 0.224 to 1.060 mg/l N and total phosphorus concentrations from undetectable to 0.004 mg/l P. 

 

The carbon dioxide concentrations were from 3.3 to 6.6 mg/l. Chlorophyll a concentrations were 2.32-5.08 mg/m3, and total biomass 0.76 mg/l. The conjugatophytes Cosmarium bioculatum and Staurastrum chaetoceros were the dominant species, 74 % of the total biomass. Transparency 2.3-3.1 meters. It is oligotrophic but under the recent development for tourism and agriculture. The state was good but increasing pressure from agriculture and tourism.
