The current volume is the second of a series of determining books of the larvae of northern European Noctuidae. In the taxonomic part, the subfamilies Elaphriinae, Eriopinae and most of the Noctuinae incl. Hadeninae (Prodeniini, Caradrinini, Cosmiini, Dypterygiini, Actinotiini, Phlogophorini, Apameini, Episemini, Xylenini, Orthosiini, Tholerini, Hadenini, Leucaniini, Eriopygini, Glottulini) are reviewed. Among others, the synonyms, description, biology, phenology, distribution, and threat status are presented.

The work was partly done under Research programme of deficiently known and threatened forest species, Ministry of the Environment
The systematic part contains the families Nolidae and Noctuidae, of which subfamilies Sarrothripinae, Eariasinae, Chloephoridae, Raphiinae, Pantheinae, Acronictinae, Dilobiinae, Bryophilinae, Rivuliinae, Herminiinae, Strepsimaninae, Trisatelinae, Hypeninae, Catocalinae, Gonopterinae, Calpinae, Aediinae, Eustrotiinae, Eublemmidae, Euteliinae, Plusiinae, Acontiinae, Tytinae, Cuculliinae, Oncocnemidinae, Condicinae, Stiriinae, Amphipyrinae, Psaphidinae, Heliothinae and Pseudeustrotiinae are included.
The third volume is under preparation and we expect to publish it in 2009(-2010). It will consist of the rest of the Noctuinae (Noctuini, Agrotini, i.e., mainly cutworm moths), Additions to the earlier volumes and probably some additional topics.
