Maija

Wheelback's First Lady

Maija is a real "first lady", as she is the first bulldog bred by us also living with us. We have always had a very small pack of bulldogs living at home, as we want them to have a good life as family members. In Finland many breeders co-own dogs that they use for breeding, as many breeders like us live in cities and don't breed dogs full-time.

As our beloved Bessie (FI & EE & SE CH Jewbull's American Pie) passed away in summer 2011 at the age of 10,5 years, we felt that it was high time to have a bulldog of our own breeding in our pack. We have two pricious males from the Brampton kennel in England, Roli (INT & NORD & NO & FI & SE CH Brampton Tug Tough) and Bailey (FI CH Brampton Mister Bailey). As they also missed Bessie very much, it really was high time to consider keeping one of the puppies from our litter to come.

We had agreed with the Ulla and Eero Karri, the owners of our first-bred bulldog Patsy (INT & NORD & FI & SE & DK & NO CH NOW-08 Wheelback's African Queen) to have a second litter with Patsy, as she had proved to be a very good brood bitch. Patsy is a "true queen" with very special personality. She is very strong and has a will of her own. She had had a nice show career being twice Bulldog Bitch of the Year in Finland. We had the opportunity to use frozen semen from Matty (INT & GB & ES CH Medbull Earth Mover) with her, and got a lovely litter of six strong, very balanced puppies.

It was easy to choose Maija from the litter, as one could say that she chose us. We took the pick of the litter by choosing a bitch whose personality would suit best the pack of our two males. Maija also looks good and moves well, but the absolutely most important thing is her happy, balanced and sweet personality. She is everybody's pal, but she still has a strong will of her own. She makes us and our bulldog boys happy. What more can you want?

We hope to be able to use Maija in our breeding in the future and to show her in bulldog rings, but first of all she is a family member. We also co-own two litter sisters of Maija and her brother as we would like to breed further this type of bulldogs.
