There are about one thousand bulldogs in Finland. The breed is getting more popular. It was among the hundred most popular dog breeds in the year 2012. With 209 bulldogs registered during the year, the bulldog became the 68ght most popular dog breed in Finland.

There have been bulldogs in our country since the late 1900th century. However, proper breeding of bulldogs began only after the second world war. Several bulldogs where imported to Finland during the 1960's ja 1970's. Our current breed population has ancestrors in Great Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia and Russia.

At the moment there are about twenty bulldog breeders in Finland. Many bulldogs are also imported to Finland from the Baltic countries and Russia. People looking for a "sourmug" of their own are wise if they seek for information about the breed f. ex. by reading bulldog literature and visiting dog shows where several bulldogs are being presented in the show ring. Information of the breed can also be obtained from the Bulldog Club of Finland.
